Myanmar security forces have launched one of their largest coordinated operations against cross-border scam networks, taking full control of the notorious Shwe Kokko complex in Myawaddy Township, Karen State, and detaining 346 foreign nationals, the majority of them Chinese.
Reporters stationed along the Thai–Myanmar border in Tak Province confirmed that Myanmar’s military, alongside Myawaddy police and the Karen Border Guard Force (BGF), entered and secured the compound early Wednesday morning. The area lies directly opposite Ban Wang Pha in Mae Ramat district and Ban Wang Kaew and Mae Pa in Mae Sot district, Thailand.
Authorities have confined the detainees inside a secured structure while seizing extensive illegal-operation equipment, including computers, laptops, mobile devices, and internal communication systems. Officials stated that the captured materials will undergo forensic inspection as part of a larger investigation into regional scam syndicates. The entire zone has since been sealed off to prevent any escape attempts.
Tightened Control and Restricted Movement
BGF officials confirmed that strict movement restrictions are now in effect throughout Shwe Kokko. Foreign nationals are barred from leaving the area, while only local Myanmar residents with BGF-issued identification may enter or exit. Joint forces from the Myanmar Army, BGF, and Myawaddy police are expected to continue operations, targeting linked scam networks believed to be operating throughout Karen State.
Demolition of KK Park Sends Shockwaves Into Thailand
In a separate but closely related development, Myanmar authorities continued demolishing the Chinese-run KK Park scam complex in the Aeng Jemeang zone of Myawaddy, located directly opposite Ban Mae Ku Mai Tha Sung in Mae Sot district.
Controlled detonations used to dismantle the fortified compound caused shockwaves felt across the Moei River on the Thai side. Metal fragments and concrete debris were reported to have landed near homes in Mae Ku, prompting concern among residents. Continuous explosions throughout the day created loud tremors, leaving many border communities distressed and fearful of further blasts.
Local Thai officials are assessing the damage and monitoring developments as the demolition proceeds.
