CAMP-13, COX’S BAZAR, BANGLADESH — Two Rohingya were reportedly stabbed in Block A-4 of Camp-13 in the Thaingkhali Rohingya refugee settlement by a group of four christians of whom one has recently come from India, according to local residents and community sources.
Witnesses reported that the victims were stabbed on 14 March 2026 at around 7:00 PM over a personal dispute which later led to physical assaults by a group of four christians individuals who have converted from Rohingya muslims to christianity inside the densely populated camp block. The assailants allegedly used knives during the assault, causing severe injuries to the two men. Both victims were immediately sent to hospitals for treatment, according to community members familiar with the incident.
Camp residents said the suspects were known within the community, and one of the alleged attackers had recently returned to the camps from India. However, the circumstances leading to the violence and the exact motive behind the attack remain unclear.
Due to security concerns across the camps, Rohingya residents express their feelings and thoughts on social media like Facebook and calling these attacks are happening frequently. Camp residents further express that these four christians are linked to missionary organizations who have been taking advantage of vulnerabilities over Rohingya people and by showing enticement of opportunities and better life.
The incident has generated concern among residents of Camp-13 and across the entire Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, where thousands of Rohingya refugees live in close quarters under difficult conditions. Community members said the sudden violence has heightened anxiety within the settlement and prompted calls for authorities to ensure accountability and prevent further incidents.
Residents are calling for a transparent investigation into the attack and for appropriate legal action against those responsible.
The refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, which host more than one million Rohingya refugees who fled violence in Myanmar, have occasionally experienced security incidents, including targeted attacks and criminal activity.
