DHAKA, Mar 29: A delegation from the World Bank met with Agriculture Minister Mohammad Aminur Rashid on Sunday to discuss ongoing and future cooperation in Bangladesh’s agricultural sector.
The delegation was led by Jean Pesme, Division Director of the World Bank for Bangladesh and Bhutan. The meeting was held at the Ministry of Agriculture in Dhaka.
During the discussion, the minister highlighted the government’s plan to introduce a “Farmer Card” to support farmers across the country. The programme is expected to begin on a pilot basis in selected areas before expanding nationwide.
He said the initiative aims to protect farmers’ rights, increase agricultural productivity, and ensure sustainable growth in the sector.
The World Bank delegation expressed interest in increasing investment in agriculture, especially in areas such as agricultural inputs, processing, and market development.
Both sides emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to strengthen Bangladesh’s agricultural system and improve the livelihoods of farmers.
