A Rohingya man was reportedly shot by suspected members of the Rohingya Solidarity Organization in Balukhali-1 of Camp-9, A-7 Block on 14 March 2026 at around 11:30am, according to witnesses.
Residents said the incident occurred while community members were attending a meeting inside a mosque in the A-7 Block area. During the gathering, a group of armed men allegedly entered the area and began firing shots toward the people present.
One of the attendees, identified as Anowar, was struck by a bullet that entered through his cheek and lodged near his neck, witnesses said. The injured man was initially taken to a hospital in Cox's Bazar, where he was reportedly referred to another medical facility due to the severity of his injuries.
He was later transferred to a hospital in Chattogram for further treatment. According to the latest information from residents, Anowar remains under medical care.
The incident comes amid reports of rising security concerns in parts of the Rohingya camps. Residents claim that suspected members of the RSO have carried out several attacks in the area in recent days, including incidents reported on 13 March.
The Daily East spoke with several residents of the Balukhali-1 Rohingya refugee camp who alleged that armed members linked to the group have been increasing activities such as threats, attempted attacks, and robberies targeting Rohingya civilians and small vendors operating in the camp.
