Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on Thursday for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and discussing regional and international issues.
The visit, which runs from June 4 to June 6, will be the first by a Turkish foreign minister to Bangladesh in nearly six years, according to diplomatic sources.
During his stay in Dhaka, Fidan is expected to pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and hold bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman.
Officials familiar with the visit said discussions are expected to cover defense cooperation, trade and investment, regional security, and broader geopolitical developments. Fidan is also likely to meet senior government officials and political leaders during his visit.
Diplomatic sources indicated that defense collaboration will be a key topic on the agenda. Türkiye has shown interest in expanding defense ties with Bangladesh, while Dhaka continues to explore opportunities for deeper strategic cooperation with Ankara.
A proposal to establish a defense industrial zone in Bangladesh, first discussed during a visit by Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat, is also expected to be reviewed during the meetings.
As part of his itinerary, Fidan may travel to Cox's Bazar to visit Rohingya refugee camps. Sources said he is expected to inspect a Turkish-supported field hospital operating in the camps and receive updates on humanitarian assistance provided to displaced Rohingya communities.
The visit follows Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman's trip to Türkiye in April, where he met Turkish officials and sought support for Bangladesh's campaign related to the presidency of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
